Lines of Research:

1) “Adolescent Health in the Digital Age”, 2) “The Reproductive Health of Adolescents and Adults with Chronic Diseases” and 3) “Chronic Diseases in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults”.

Summary:

  • The “Adolescent Health in the Digital Age” research line has explored the relationship between the use of digital media and the painful chronic and idiopathic musculoskeletal syndromes (juvenile fibromyalgia, myofascial syndrome, benign joint hypermobility, tendonitis, bursitis and epicondylitis) in eutrophic adolescents in public and private schools, as well as in adolescents with chronic illnesses (asthma, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and obesity).
  • The “Reproductive Health in Adolescents and Adults with Chronic Diseases” line of study includes pioneering studies of both male and female gonadal function, as well as research in females on pregnancy, cervical dysplasia, sexually transmitted infections and, more recently, studies in the area of metabolomics, particularly in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, spondylarthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, dermatomyositis, polymyositis, Takayasu’s arteritis, Behcet’s syndrome and epilepsies.
  • The “Chronic Diseases in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults” is the line of research that has undergone the most expansion, including the following: a) “Multicentric Groups of Chronic Pediatric Diseases”, b) “Quality of Life Related to Health in the Child, the Adolescent and their Social Nucleus”, c) “Periodontitis, Dyslipidemia and Bone Mass”, d) “Diagnosis and Etiopathogenesis of the Immune System Diseases”, e) “Therapeutic and Pharmacokinetic Interventions in Adolescents and Adults with Chronic Disease”, and f) “Vulnerability in Adolescents”. Two multicentric groups with broad interdisciplinary experience with chronic pediatric diseases that I coordinate deserve to be highlighted nationally and internationally. Since 2012, I have led the “Brazilian Childhood-Onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Group – BRAC-SLE”. Currently, together with Prof. Maria Teresa Ramos Ascensão Terreri (UNIFESP) and Prof. Graciela Espada (Argentina), we extended this and proposed the Latin American Autoinflammatory Syndrome Group, with prospective evaluations.
