Epigenética Nutricional nas Doenças Reumáticas

Summary

The research line “Nutritional Epigenetics in Rheumatic Diseases” aims to elucidate whether there is an epigenetic signature related to the phenotype of lupus and obesity. More specifically, it investigates the role of obesity in the DNA methylation pattern in this disease and whether this profile is associated with the manifestations of the disease, as well as whether nutritional treatments, primarily with methyl group donor nutrients, can epigenetically modulate the genome. I am currently conducting in vivo, in vitro, and human studies, which characterizes a translational approach. Collectively, this ambitious and comprehensive research line will provide new insights into the complex relationship between lupus and obesity, as advances in precision medicine/nutrition will be important for the treatment of patients with lupus, especially those with obesity.
