Line of research:

Regeneration in the Musculoskeletal System applied to Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery techniques (vascularized bone transplantation, inflammatory diseases, tendon injuries, peripheral nerve injuries, brachial plexus injuries, autologous and homologous tissue transplantation).

Summary

I have developed lines of research in both clinical and experimental areas. In the clinical area we created CEMIM (Center for Reconstructive Microsurgery and Hand Surgery) at the IOT HC FMUSP with 22 medical professionals and a multidisciplinary team. Our center develops comparative studies of different approaches to injuries and pathologies of the musculoskeletal system. Among the studies, we highlight evaluation of techniques for skin lining, traumatic brachial plexus injuries, peripheral nerve injuries, tendon injuries, fractures and dislocations and comparative studies of implants using osteosynthesis techniques. A little over a decade ago, we created the Reconstructive Surgery Laboratory of the IOT HC FMUSP, which has supported the teaching, training and development of basic lines of reconstructive microsurgery research. We highlight the studies of the learning curve in reconstructive microsurgery, studies of peripheral nerve regeneration, vascular microanastomoses and of the biology of healing and muscle-tendon regeneration.
